Tips for a Magical Christmas Light Tour

Make your holiday lights tour a memorable family tradition with these practical tips:

Plan Ahead

  • Map out your route and check local guides or social media for top displays.
  • Pick less-crowded evenings, like weeknights, to avoid long lines and traffic.

Dress for Comfort

  • Bundle up with layers, hats, gloves, and cozy blankets.
  • Bring warm drinks in travel mugs to stay toasty on the go.

Bring Snacks and Entertainment

  • Pack easy snacks for the ride and a small bag for trash.
  • Play holiday music, sing along, or enjoy a seasonal audiobook together.

Get the Whole Family Involved

  • Make it interactive: vote on favorite displays, play “spot the reindeer,” or let kids take photos.
  • Encourage everyone to pick a neighborhood or display to visit.

Capture Memories

  • Take photos or short videos, but don’t forget to enjoy the lights in the moment.
  • Consider keeping a “light tour journal” for notes, drawings, or snapshots each year.

Stay Safe and Flexible

  • Drive slowly, watch for pedestrians, and use sidewalks when walking.
  • Be patient with crowds and traffic – focus on enjoying the experience together.

Create a Lasting Tradition

  • Make the tour an annual event with added rituals: special treats, matching pajamas, or a family photo at a favorite display.
  • Revisit your favorite neighborhoods and discover new ones each year.
