It’s always fun to visit someplace new, to discover a new favorite trail, or to perhaps even try a new sport together as a family. And while summer may seem like the best time to go exploring, we personally love visiting new places in the winter. Summer’s such a short season and tends to get filled up with re-visiting our favorite parks and campgrounds. Winter, on the other hand, is long and tends to drag on for five or more months. This is the perfect time to take a trip, try something new, and come up with creative destinations for exploring.
When camping in the spring near Calgary, you need to be prepared for all types of weather. It could be snowy one day, warm and sunny the next, or both on the same day. While nights tend to be around freezing (especially in the mountains) at this time of year, with a bit of planning, you can be ready for whatever Mother Nature throws your way. Here's how to keep warm and dry while spring camping near Calgary:
Spring has arrived in the mountains, with green grass on the rolling hills of Kananaskis and flowers covering the slopes. In this guide, I’ve featured five of my favorite spring hikes that are just a little bit off the beaten path. We’ve all hiked Troll Falls and Heart Creek dozens of times, so I encourage you to choose one new hike this spring to complete with your family.
Summer can never come soon enough, and, by mid-May, we’re usually counting down the days until school gets out and we can go on vacation. While we patiently wait for the last day of classes, we try to plan fun weekend adventures – from hikes and bike rides, to day trips around the city to hold us over.
