How did fall fly by so fast? Our extracurriculars are going full swing, and the holiday season is around the corner. We are rushing from one activity to the next while trying to nourish our families the best we can while on the run. By the time the weekend comes, we’re too exhausted to spend hours in the kitchen entertaining our friends and family.
We love this recipe – a favorite at Fairholme Manor in Victoria, BC. It’s the perfect start to a cool fall morning, with crunchy oats, nuts, and a hint of sweetness that makes it both delicious and nourishing. Paired with yogurt or milk, it’s a simple, comforting meal that keeps you energized and ready for the day ahead.
There’s an autumn chill in the air, we’ve settled back into our regular routines, and summer BBQ’s are now fond memories. We take solace in the things that make us warm on the inside and put a smile on our face. Those things are best found in pastas, pizzas, meatloaves, southern BBQ, pot pies, and decadent desserts, collectively known as comfort food. They are foods that sometimes remind us of childhood, and stir up happy thoughts and positive emotions. That’s what fall is for, and there is plenty of comfort food to be thankful for here in Calgary! The following is a small sample of what this city has to offer if you are looking to warm up your belly!
Being able to prepare healthy foods is an essential life skill that can feel overwhelming – not only to perform, but also to hand down to our littles. We know we need to teach children these skills, but often, having little helpers in the kitchen can make a task take longer. One way to overcome this hurdle is to start off small, prepare yourself (both emotionally and time-wise), and to see cooking as not only skill-building time, but also as playtime.
